Tuesday had three NBA playoff games with two upset results, four NHL first-round Game 2s including two overtime finishes, and a 15-game MLB slate that ended with the Yankees blanking Boston on TBS.

NBA Playoffs — Sixers stun Boston, Blazers even it up

Three Game 2s on the board. The Lakers handled business. The other two didn't go according to form.

Philadelphia 76ers, 111 — Boston Celtics, 97. The 76ers went into TD Garden and won by 14 after losing Game 1 by 32. The series is tied 1-1. Whatever Boston solved in the opener, Philadelphia had an answer for it in Game 2. The Celtics now have a split and head to Philadelphia for Game 3 without the series control they built in Game 1.

Portland Trail Blazers, 106 — San Antonio Spurs, 103. Portland came to San Antonio and won, tying the series 1-1. The Spurs had taken Game 1 at home and couldn't close out Game 2. The series now shifts to Portland with neither team holding an edge.

Los Angeles Lakers, 101 — Houston Rockets, 94. The Lakers closed it out cleanly. Los Angeles leads 2-0 after back-to-back wins at home, and the Rockets go on the road in a deficit they cannot afford to grow.

NHL — Two overtime finishes, Boston answers in Buffalo

Four Game 2s. Two went to overtime. All four series are now tied 1-1 except Colorado.

Boston Bruins, 4 — Buffalo Sabres, 2. Boston had lost Game 1 at home. They went to Buffalo and won by two in Game 2 to even it at 1-1. A road win after a home loss is the clearest possible response in a first-round series, and the Bruins delivered it.

Tampa Bay Lightning, 3 — Montreal Canadiens, 2 (OT). Tampa won at home in overtime and tied the series 1-1. The Canadiens had taken Game 1 on the road as underdogs. Tampa forced overtime and got the result, sending the series to Montreal with both teams holding one.

Utah Mammoth, 3 — Vegas Golden Knights, 2. Utah erased Vegas's Game 1 win and tied the series. The Golden Knights had home-ice advantage in Game 2 and couldn't use it. The series heads to Salt Lake tied.

Colorado Avalanche, 2 — Los Angeles Kings, 1 (OT). The Avalanche take a 2-0 series lead after winning in overtime. Los Angeles scored first and held the lead but couldn't close it. Colorado goes to LA with full control and the Kings needing to win two straight on the road just to get back to even.

MLB — Yankees shut out Boston, Nationals pound Atlanta

15 games Tuesday. The most-watched results: New York winning the national TBS broadcast, and Washington running up the score on a Braves team that looked flat.

New York Yankees, 4 — Boston Red Sox, 0. The Yankees blanked Boston in the nationally televised series opener on TBS. A shutout in the first Yankee-Red Sox game of 2026 sets the tone for the rivals heading into Game 2 on Wednesday at Fenway.

Washington Nationals, 11 — Atlanta Braves, 4. Washington scored 11 and handled Atlanta by seven. The Braves looked like a different team from the one that handled business a day earlier.

Every final from around the league:

  • Cleveland Guardians, 8 — Houston Astros, 5.
  • Cincinnati Reds, 12 — Tampa Bay Rays, 6.
  • Milwaukee Brewers, 12 — Detroit Tigers, 4.
  • St. Louis Cardinals, 5 — Miami Marlins, 3.
  • Minnesota Twins, 5 — New York Mets, 3.
  • Kansas City Royals, 6 — Baltimore Orioles, 5.
  • Chicago Cubs, 7 — Philadelphia Phillies, 4.
  • Texas Rangers, 5 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 1.
  • San Diego Padres, 1 — Colorado Rockies, 0.
  • Toronto Blue Jays, 4 — Los Angeles Angels, 2.
  • Oakland Athletics, 5 — Seattle Mariners, 2.
  • Chicago White Sox, 11 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 5.
  • San Francisco Giants, 3 — Los Angeles Dodgers, 1.

What to watch tonight

Wednesday has two NBA Game 2s, three NHL games, and a full MLB slate starting at noon.

  • NBA: Phoenix Suns at Oklahoma City Thunder, 9:30 PM ET on ESPN. OKC is a 17.5-point favorite to go up 2-0. Phoenix needs a different game plan or the series ends quickly.
  • NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers, 7:00 PM ET on TNT. Philadelphia hasn't allowed a goal in two games. They're at home and looking to go up 3-0.
  • NHL: Dallas Stars at Minnesota Wild, 9:30 PM ET on TNT. This one's tied 1-1 with the series shifting to Minnesota — should be a real game.
  • MLB: New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox, 6:45 PM ET on Prime Video. The Red Sox need an answer after getting shut out in Game 1.
