Last Night in Sports: April 24, 2026
Lakers go 3-0 on Houston in OT. Habs win in OT on Hutson. All three NHL road teams won. Cubs hit 10 straight in LA. Yankees pound Houston 12-4.
Friday had three NBA Game 3s including a Lakers OT win to go up 3-0, three NHL Game 3s in which every road team won, and 14 MLB games headlined by the Cubs taking their 10th straight and the Yankees opening their Houston series with a 12-4 statement.
NBA Playoffs — Lakers go up 3-0 in OT, Celtics retake lead, Spurs hold court
Three Game 3s. The Lakers kept rolling, Boston answered Philadelphia, and San Antonio took the series lead in Portland.
Los Angeles Lakers, 112 — Houston Rockets, 108 (OT). LA leads the series 3-0 and is one win from advancing. LeBron James hit a tying three late in regulation to force overtime, then the Lakers closed it. Houston had home court for Game 3 and let it slip in the extra period. The Rockets now face a sweep on Sunday.
Boston Celtics, 108 — Philadelphia 76ers, 100. Boston wins on the road and leads 2-1. The Sixers had taken Game 2 in Boston to even the series; the Celtics responded by winning the first game in Philadelphia by eight. The series is back in Boston's favor with two of the next three at home if it goes that far.
San Antonio Spurs, 120 — Portland Trail Blazers, 108. San Antonio wins Game 3 on the road and leads 2-1. The series was tied 1-1 going in. Portland had its first home game of the series and lost by 12. The Spurs put up 120 and now have control with one win away from a 3-1 lead.
NHL Playoffs — Three road wins, every series flips
Three Game 3s. Three road teams won. Every series that was tied 1-1 is now 2-1 in favor of the visiting team.
Montreal Canadiens, 3 — Tampa Bay Lightning, 2 (OT). Lane Hutson scored the overtime winner. Montreal leads the series 2-1. Alexandre Texier and Kirby Dach scored in regulation for the Canadiens; Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov answered for Tampa. The Bell Centre got a Game 3 OT winner and the series is Montreal's to control.
Utah Mammoth, 4 — Vegas Golden Knights, 2. Utah wins Game 3 on the road and takes a 2-1 series lead. The series was tied going in. Utah played its first true road game of the series and won by two. Vegas now has to win at home to keep from falling into a hole.
Anaheim Ducks, 7 — Edmonton Oilers, 4. Anaheim wins Game 3 on the road and leads 2-1. Anaheim hung seven on Edmonton in a series the Oilers were favored in coming in. Edmonton has now allowed seven goals in a Game 3 and has to respond at home.
MLB — Cubs hit 10 straight, Yankees drop 12 on Houston, Pirates shut out Milwaukee
Fourteen games Friday. The Cubs took down the Dodgers in LA for their 10th straight win. The Yankees opened their Houston series with a four-touchdown statement. Pittsburgh shut out Milwaukee.
Chicago Cubs, 6 — Los Angeles Dodgers, 4. Chicago wins in LA and runs the streak to 10 straight. The Cubs went on the road against the defending-champion-caliber Dodgers and won by two. They get the same matchup tonight on FOX.
New York Yankees, 12 — Houston Astros, 4. The Yankees scored 12 and won by eight. New York had just swept Boston at Fenway and brought the same offense to Houston. The Astros now have to find a response at home.
Pittsburgh Pirates, 6 — Milwaukee Brewers, 0. Pittsburgh shut out Milwaukee and won by six. A clean game on the road for the Pirates against a Brewers team that has been scuffling.
Baltimore Orioles, 10 — Boston Red Sox, 3. Baltimore put up 10 and won by seven. Boston's troubles continue with a second straight series of giving up double-digit runs.
Cincinnati Reds, 9 — Detroit Tigers, 8. Cincinnati edged Detroit by one in a high-scoring opener. Both teams crossed eight runs.
Cleveland Guardians, 8 — Toronto Blue Jays, 6. Cleveland scored eight on the road and won by two. Toronto fell short despite reaching six.
Colorado Rockies, 4 — New York Mets, 3. Colorado wins on the road by one. The Mets had won the previous night on a walk-off; this time the Rockies got the one-run game.
Tampa Bay Rays, 6 — Minnesota Twins, 2. Tampa held Minnesota to two and won by four. Straightforward home win.
Atlanta Braves, 5 — Philadelphia Phillies, 3. Atlanta wins by two at home. Philadelphia, which had been on a long losing streak, is still searching for traction.
Kansas City Royals, 6 — Los Angeles Angels, 3. Kansas City wins by three at home over the Angels.
Chicago White Sox, 5 — Washington Nationals, 4. Chicago edges Washington by one. A tight game, decided by a run.
Oakland Athletics, 8 — Texas Rangers, 1. Oakland scored eight and held Texas to one. The Rangers got beat by seven on their own field.
Seattle Mariners, 3 — St. Louis Cardinals, 2. Seattle wins on the road by one. Low-scoring, decided late.
Miami Marlins, 9 — San Francisco Giants, 4. Miami put up nine and won by five. Easy enough.
What to watch tonight
Saturday has four NBA playoff games, no NHL, and 14 MLB games.
- NBA: Denver Nuggets at Minnesota Timberwolves, 8:30 PM ET on ABC. Game 4. Minnesota leads 2-1 after a 17-point Game 3 win. Denver loses this and they go back home down 3-1.
- NBA: New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks, 6:00 PM ET on NBC/Peacock. Game 4. Atlanta leads 2-1 after taking Game 3 in New York by one.
- NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder at Phoenix Suns, 3:30 PM ET on NBC/Peacock. Game 3. OKC leads 2-0 and goes for a 3-0 lead on the road.
- NBA: Detroit Pistons at Orlando Magic, 1:00 PM ET on Peacock/NBCSN. Game 3 of an East series tied 1-1.
- MLB: Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Dodgers, 7:15 PM ET on FOX. Cubs go for 11 straight on national TV.
