Wednesday ran until Dallas and Minnesota finally settled things in a second overtime period. By then, the Oilers had already taken stock of a 6-4 home loss, and Phoenix had flown back from Oklahoma City down 2-0 in a series they don't look capable of winning right now.

NBA Playoffs — First Round

Two Game 2s on Wednesday, and both went to the home team.

Detroit Pistons 98, Orlando Magic 83. Detroit was trailing in this series 1-0 and came home to even it. The Pistons controlled the second half, outscoring the Magic by double digits after the break. The series is tied 1-1 and heads to Orlando for Game 3.

Oklahoma City Thunder 120, Phoenix Suns 107. OKC leads 2-0. The Thunder pushed the pace and shot well from the outside while Phoenix stayed a step slow on both ends. The Suns have not been competitive for full stretches in either game. They head home needing to find something different before the series gets away from them.

NHL Playoffs — First Round

Three games Wednesday. One went to the home team, and one needed two overtime periods.

Philadelphia Flyers 5, Pittsburgh Penguins 2. Philadelphia leads this series 3-0 and the Penguins are one loss from going home. The Flyers have now allowed Pittsburgh two goals across three games. Pittsburgh had a second-period push, but Philadelphia kept it from turning into anything. Game 4 is in Philadelphia.

Dallas Stars 4, Minnesota Wild 3 (2OT). The Wild had home ice and the momentum. Dallas took two overtime periods to leave with the win and a 2-1 series lead. Minnesota played well enough to win in regulation but couldn't close it. The series now heads to Dallas for Game 4 with the Wild needing a road win.

Anaheim Ducks 6, Edmonton Oilers 4. The night's most significant result. Anaheim came into Rogers Place and put up six, knocking Edmonton out of first place in this series and tying it 1-1. The Oilers gave up four goals before the second period ended and could never right the ship. Game 3 shifts to Anaheim.
