Monday had three NBA Game 2s, four NHL playoff games with a double-overtime marathon, and a 10-game MLB slate. The Knicks lost at home for the first time. The Flyers shut the door on Pittsburgh. The Dodgers stopped the bleeding in Denver.

NBA Playoffs — Hawks shock MSG, Wolves even it in Denver

Three Game 2s Monday. Cavaliers stayed on script. The other two did not.

Cleveland Cavaliers, 115 — Toronto Raptors, 105. Donovan Mitchell scored 30 and Cleveland handled business in Game 2 with a comfortable margin. The Cavaliers are up 2-0 on Toronto, who has yet to make them work in either game. Mitchell was a problem all night and the Raptors have no easy answer for him in a must-win Game 3 at home.

Atlanta Hawks, 107 — New York Knicks, 106. C.J. McCollum scored 32 and Atlanta went into Madison Square Garden and won. The Hawks are now tied 1-1 with New York after the Knicks' first playoff loss. Jalen Brunson had 29 and came one point short. It was a one-possession game throughout the fourth quarter — Atlanta had enough to hold it. They head home for Game 3 with full momentum and a split on the road.

Minnesota Timberwolves, 119 — Denver Nuggets, 114. Anthony Edwards scored 30 and Minnesota held off a Jokic performance that would have won most games. Nikola Jokic put up 24 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort. Denver was up 1-0 coming in and couldn't defend home court. The series is tied 1-1 with the next two games shifting to Minneapolis.

NHL — Flyers dominant, Hurricanes grind through double overtime

Four games Monday. Philadelphia looks like a legitimate threat in the East. Carolina is built for this.

Philadelphia Flyers, 3 — Pittsburgh Penguins, 0. The Flyers shut out Pittsburgh in Game 2 and hold a 2-0 series lead. The Penguins have not scored in a stretch of this series and will need a significant response when it shifts. Philadelphia is controlling both ends of the ice and is two wins from advancing.

Carolina Hurricanes, 3 — Ottawa Senators, 2 (2OT). The longest game of the first round. Ottawa pushed Carolina to double overtime and came up short. The Hurricanes lead 2-0 and head to Ottawa for the next two games knowing they've already stolen every margin there is to get. The Senators made them earn it. The Hurricanes got it.

Dallas Stars, 4 — Minnesota Wild, 2. Dallas evened the series 1-1 with a two-goal win in Game 2. Minnesota had taken Game 1 and the Stars responded cleanly at home. The series is tied heading into Games 3 and 4 in Minnesota.

Edmonton Oilers, 4 — Anaheim Ducks, 3. The final first-round series opener of the bracket. Edmonton won Game 1 at home by one goal and holds a 1-0 lead. The Oilers controlled enough of the game to come away with the result but Anaheim made it tight until the final minutes.

MLB — Dodgers reverse course in Denver, Red Sox rally at Fenway

Ten games Monday. The two most-watched results: Los Angeles bouncing back hard, and Boston coming from behind.

Los Angeles Dodgers, 12 — Colorado Rockies, 3. The Dodgers had dropped two straight at Coors Field — a 4-3 loss Saturday and a 9-6 loss Sunday. Monday they scored 12. Whatever was going wrong those first two Denver games, this one was a correction. Los Angeles ends the road trip with one win out of three.

Boston Red Sox, 8 — Detroit Tigers, 6. The Red Sox rallied at Fenway to beat Detroit in a high-scoring game. Boston came from behind and held on for the win.

Every final from around the league:

  • Houston Astros, 9 — Cleveland Guardians, 2.
  • Cincinnati Reds, 6 — Tampa Bay Rays, 1.
  • Miami Marlins, 5 — St. Louis Cardinals, 3.
  • Atlanta Braves, 9 — Washington Nationals, 4.
  • Baltimore Orioles, 7 — Kansas City Royals, 5.
  • Chicago Cubs, 5 — Philadelphia Phillies, 1.
  • Toronto Blue Jays, 5 — Los Angeles Angels, 2.
  • Oakland Athletics, 6 — Seattle Mariners, 4.
