Rosterlytic sends push notifications for game updates, lineup changes, chat messages, and more. Most of the time, they just work. But if you're not getting notifications — especially on Android — this guide will help you fix it.
What notifications does Rosterlytic send?
Rosterlytic sends notifications for different events depending on what you're involved in:
Team notifications
- Game updates — New games added to your schedule, game time or location changes, and game cancellations
- Lineup published — Your captain set the lineup and you can see your position
- Chat messages — New messages in your team chat, including photos
- Attendance nudges — Reminders to RSVP when you haven't responded yet
League notifications
- League game updates — New league games, score updates, and schedule changes
- Announcements — League-wide messages from your commissioner
Pickleball & tennis group notifications
- New sessions — A new play date has been scheduled
- Attendance updates — RSVP changes and waitlist promotions
- Match results — Scores recorded for your matches
- Group chat — Messages and photos in your group chat
Managing your notification preferences
You can control exactly which notifications you receive for each team, league, or group you belong to.
How to find notification settings
- Open Rosterlytic
- Go to Settings (gear icon)
- Tap Notification Preferences
- You'll see a list of every team, league, and group you're in
What you can toggle
For each team:
- Games & Lineups — game creation, changes, cancellations, and lineup posts
- Team Chat — messages, photos, and polls
For each league:
- League Games — game updates and score changes
- Announcements — commissioner messages
For each pickleball or tennis group:
- Sessions & Matches — new sessions, match results
- Attendance Updates — RSVP changes, waitlist promotions
- Group Chat — messages and photos
Each toggle is independent. You can turn off chat notifications for one team while keeping game updates on for everything else. For more on how team chat works, see our chat and communication guide.
Fixing notification issues on Android
Android is where most notification problems happen. This isn't a Rosterlytic issue — it's how Android manages battery and background processes. Here's what to check:
1. Make sure notification permissions are granted
On Android 13 and newer, apps need explicit permission to send notifications.
- Open your phone's Settings
- Go to Apps → Rosterlytic
- Tap Notifications
- Make sure notifications are turned on
- Check that the Rosterlytic Notifications channel is enabled
If you denied the permission when you first installed the app, this is the most common reason you're not getting notifications.
2. Disable battery optimization for Rosterlytic
This is the number one Android notification killer. Battery optimization can prevent Rosterlytic from receiving push notifications in the background.
Samsung (One UI):
- Settings → Battery and device care → Battery
- Tap Background usage limits
- Make sure Rosterlytic is not in the "Sleeping apps" or "Deep sleeping apps" list
- If it is, tap to remove it
Google Pixel / Stock Android:
- Settings → Apps → Rosterlytic
- Tap Battery
- Select Unrestricted (not "Optimized" or "Restricted")
OnePlus (OxygenOS):
- Settings → Battery → Battery optimization
- Find Rosterlytic → Select Don't optimize
- Also check Settings → Apps → Rosterlytic → Battery → Allow background activity
Xiaomi (MIUI):
- Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Rosterlytic
- Tap Battery saver → Select No restrictions
- Also enable Autostart for Rosterlytic
- Lock the app in recent apps (swipe down on the app card instead of swiping it away)
3. Check Do Not Disturb settings
If you use Do Not Disturb (DND), notifications may be silenced without you realizing it.
- Open Settings → Notifications → Do Not Disturb
- Check your DND schedule — it might be running during game times
- If you want Rosterlytic notifications during DND, add it as an exception under Apps
4. Enable background data
Some Android phones restrict background data usage, which prevents push notifications from being delivered.
- Settings → Apps → Rosterlytic → Mobile data
- Make sure Allow background data usage is turned on
- If you're using a data saver or battery saver mode, add Rosterlytic as an exception
5. Clear the notification cache (last resort)
If none of the above work:
- Open Rosterlytic and go to Settings
- Sign out and sign back in — this re-registers your device for push notifications
- Make sure notification preferences are set the way you want after signing back in
Fixing notification issues on iOS
iOS notification issues are less common, but here's what to check:
1. Check notification settings
- Open Settings → Notifications → Rosterlytic
- Make sure Allow Notifications is turned on
- Check that Banners, Sounds, and Badges are all enabled
- Under Notification Grouping, choose Automatic for the best experience
2. Check Focus modes
If you use Focus modes (Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work, etc.), Rosterlytic notifications may be filtered:
- Settings → Focus → [Your active focus mode]
- Under Allowed Notifications, make sure Rosterlytic is included
- Or enable Time Sensitive Notifications to receive important alerts during Focus
3. Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode can delay push notifications on iOS. If you're in Low Power Mode and missing time-sensitive game updates, consider disabling it before game time.
Tips for getting the most out of notifications
- Set preferences early. When you first join a team or league, take 30 seconds to set your notification preferences. Turning off what you don't need means the notifications you do get are the ones that matter.
- Don't mute your busiest team chat. If your team has an active chat, muting it might cause you to miss game-related messages mixed in with the banter.
- Check after phone updates. Major Android and iOS updates sometimes reset notification permissions or battery optimization settings. If notifications suddenly stop working, check your settings first. You can also manage notification preferences from your account settings.
- Lock Rosterlytic on Android. On phones with aggressive battery management (Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus), long-press the app in your recent apps tray and tap the lock icon. This prevents the phone from killing the app in the background.
